Sylvia Barack Fishman, Ph.D.

Sylvia Barack Fishman is the Joseph and Esther Foster Professor of Contemporary Jewish Life in the Near Eastern and Judaic Studies Department at Brandeis University, and the Co-Director of the Hadassah Brandeis Institute. She is the author of eight books, including Love, Marriage, and Jewish Families: Paradoxes of a Social Revolution, which will be published in Fall 2015 and deals with all the newest research on young American Jews, and The Way Into the Varieties of Jewishness, which is often used for introduction to Judaism courses; she has also written dozens of articles on changing Jewish families and gender roles, intermarriage, Jewish education, and American Jewish literature and film. Professor Fishman received the 2014 Marshall Sklare Award from the Association for Social Scientific Study of Jewry, and the Samuel Belkin Award for Distinguished Professional Achievement from Yeshiva University.
